Get a cleaner burn and more fragrance from every candle

Care is simple: trim the wick, respect the first burn time, and keep sessions under 4 hours. These three habits prevent tunnelling, maximise scent, and extend candle life—so you enjoy more fragrance with fewer issues.

Recommended burn times by candle size

Follow our recommended burn times by candle size—your first burn matters: let the wax reach the edges to prevent tunnelling.

First burn: minimum of 45mins

Ongoing burn time: 1-4hours

Total burn time: 55-60hours

First burn: minimum of 1.5hours

Care tips

Trim the wick to 5mm before each burn

Firstburn: let the melt pool reach the edges (timings by size below)

Burn 1–4 hours per session; never longer than 4 hours

Stop with at least 1cm wax remaining to protect the container

Keep out of drafts, sun and heat; place on a stable, heat‑resistant surface

Preparation

Trim wick to 5mm before each burn to promote a steady flame and reduce mushrooming.

Let the candle cool before relighting and before trimming the wick end.

Wipe any black residue inside the container with a damp cloth.

Keep away from direct sunlight and heat sources to preserve colour and scent.

Burn time

Follow the 1–4 hour session guideline to protect the wick and ensure a clean burn.

Never burn to the very bottom; leave at least 1cm of wax to prevent overheating or container cracking.

Never leave a burning candle unattended. Keep away from drafts, children, and pets. Place on a level, heat resistant surface.

Cleaning (optional)

Use hot water and wipe; or place in freezer for ~20 minutes and pop out wax.

You may choose to use a butter knife to scrape the wax out before finishing in hot soapy water.

Dispose of wax in the bin (not down the drain).

Return to CandleXchange and swap for a new candle.

Caution

DO NOT burn your candle for longer than 4 hours at one time. This can damage the wick and cause an undesirable burn.

DO NOT leave your candles unattended and placed away from draft, children and pets and always place candles on a heat-resistant base and set on a level stable surface.

DO NOT burn your candle all the way to the bottom of the container. Ensure you leave minimum 1cm of wax remaining in the container to avoid container overheating and potentially cracking.

Troubleshooting

Ensure your first burn meets the minimum time; on later burns, trim the wick and allow a full melt pool.

Trim wick to ~5mm before each burn and keep burns under 4 hours

Trim before every light; avoid drafts; keep
sessions within 1–4 hours.

This is normal for clear glass candles and doesn’t affect burn quality.
